HTTPS pages - "Cannot display the webpage"
I have a server that will not connect to secure sites. Server: Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise SP2Apps installed:ExchangeAD controlerSymantec EndPoint Protection (Manager)Backup Exec System RecoverySymantec Mail Security for MS ExchangeGFI MailEssentials for Exchange
Issue: IE will not connect to any secure sites (HTTPS), I get "cannot didplay the webpage". Also I other applications that require connecting to a secure site (Zenith monitoring client, Symantec Live update, etc..) will not connect either. IE will not connect to the local IIS https site.I have tried the re-registering of the DLLs and the clearing the cache, etc..in the technet articals. I have OWA setup with a Cert (from Godaddy) and connetions TO the server via SSL work without issue, but OUT going ssl traffic does not work. The server is behind a firewall, but other servers on the networkdo not have this issue. There are no local software firewalls installed/active.ThanksLarry

hi there, i would like to check few parametersa) telnet localhost 443 -- run this command to check if the SSL port is openend , if so also run netstat -ano to check what is the state of the port ( listening / ready etc..) b) make sure you check if you have configured any rules on Firewall to block 443 port.c) In IE --> tools -->internet options --> advance -->SSL option is checked. ( including ssl 2.0 ) d) check if this policy has been configured locally or through domain GPO /User Configuration/Windows Settings/Internet Explorer Maintenance/Connectione) and make sure you boot your system in safe mode with networking and check if the issue happens.f) finally a netmon / ethereal captuer will help us to identify the problemsainath

a) telnet localhost 443 -- run this command to check if the SSL port is openend , if so also run netstat -ano to check what is the state of the port ( listening / ready etc..) Telnet 443will connect from local server and from workstation on network.b) make sure you check if you have configured any rules on Firewall to block 443 port.Port 443 is not blocked in any rules outbound or inbound.c) In IE --> tools -->internet options --> advance -->SSL option is checked. ( including ssl 2.0 ) All checked , but I did notice that "HKEY_LocalLMachine\system\currentcontrolset\control\securityproviders\schannel\protocols\SSL 2.0\client (and server) has an entry of "Enable: (0)". This did not change in checking / un-checking box in IIE.d) check if this policy has been configured locally or through domain GPO /User Configuration/Windows Settings/Internet Explorer Maintenance/ConnectionNo Policies on this naturee) and make sure you boot your system in safe mode with networking and check if the issue happens. This is production server, cannot re-boot out of maintanace window - may try at some point in the future...f) finally a netmon / ethereal captuer will help us to identify the problemNetmon / etherreal not installed on server, I will look for and install if possable. Thanks for your help.Larry
